Facial Plastic Surgery
What is it?
Facial Lifting or Rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure that is intended to improve facial appearance. Changes in facial appearance are caused by prolonged exposure to harmful skin elements such as sun and smoking, or due to personal characteristics such as strong facial expressions and skin type, but mainly as a result of the natural aging process.
Indicated for correction of sagging and excess skin of the face and neck, aiming to soften the visible signs of aging, restoring a more youthful appearance to the face and neck without changing the natural traits characteristic of each person.
How is it done?
Usually an incision is made through the hairline, carefully drawn, so that the scars are as hidden as possible. Through the incision, the surgeon separates the skin from the underlying tissues of the face, jaw line and neck. The SMAS, a fibromuscular structure located just below the skin, can also be repositioned for a more youthful appearance. In some cases, the neck muscles are manipulated in order to decrease sagging skin and the folds of the neck. Fat from this region can be removed through liposuction to further shape the patient's jaw and neck.
After all the necessary adjustments in the underlying structures, the skin is pulled and repositioned on the face to determine the excess to be removed.
